Our Farm

Colt & Amber Holcomb - owners
Holcomb Farm has a rich history that spans many generations. Located in Thurmond, NC, the original farmhouse, built in 1862, has been passed down through the family over the years and as of 2 years ago it is now where we call home. Colt and I hope that our beautiful boys will get to enjoy it with their families someday. While the dairy is no longer in operation, the farm still boasts AQHA Quarter Horses, beef cattle, and now, of course, dairy goats! It's a beautiful, thriving place that we're proud to call home!
Holcomb Farm specializes in one breed of Dairy Goats- Nubians. We fell in love with this breed 6 years ago and never looked back. Our Nubians have the best personalities! We currently have approximately 30 goats here on our farm. Our passion has extended to the show ring where we have been competing in local shows since 2021. And as of 2024, we can now say that we have competed nationally and embarked in the linear appraisal journey; We attended our very first ADGA National Show!
Our goal is to breed balanced animals that excel in general appearance with a strong, lasting mammary system. We are ecstatic with our girls and how they have performed. Each year we have been blessed to see our herd progress in a great direction. Our biggest joy is seeing animals we have bred perform well for other families, as well.

Our Story
How It Started

In all honesty, goats were never "The Plan" but it was the best "mistake" that Colt ever made! Let me tell you, our story!
Growing up, I didn't have animals. And of course, like every other little girl, I dreamed of having my own horse. But my family didn't have the land and so having a horse just wasn't an option. I begged for a horse every year for my birthday and Christmas, but in vain. My daddy finally told me that I would just have to grow up and marry a man that could give me one. So that's what I did! Now, that's not why Colt and I dated, but it sure was icing on the cake. When we started dating, their breeding program consisted of around 50 horses. I was in heaven. After our relationship developed into something more serious (and he realized he had found the woman of his dreams), I finally asked for my own horse. But even though we were serious, Colt decided that a horse was too big of a commitment yet, so he bought me a goat instead. And the rest is history!
I did get my horse (several actually) once we got married. But I have never been without goats since my first little doe that Colt bought me. Sometimes now he jokes that he should have just bought the horse! But I am so thankful that he brought goats into my life. I don't know where I'd be without them! I have made a whole new world of friends because of the goats!
Special Thank You
I wanted to make a special thank you note to two special people - Joan Carlson (Morgen Star Farms) and Christina Maguire (Frog Flat Farms). Without these two wonderful ladies, I wouldn't be where I am today. I built my herd with their genetics alone and along the way formed a special friendship. They pushed me and encouraged me to start showing when I was scared to death to do it. Now, three years later, I love being out in the showring and am fully addicted to showing these goats! THANK YOU Joan and Christina for taking me under your wing and teaching me everything you know! It's been one heck of a journey so far!
